Paras Limited - Company History

Paras Limited was formed in 1993 as an employee buyout of the consultancy department of Marex Technology Limited. Marex Technology had been providing oceanographic environmental consultancy services for more than 20 years. Paras expanded to provide information management, technology implementation and business process consultancy services to the oil industry, services previously provided by Marex.

During the mid to late nineties the oceanographic consultancy services and associated software development activities were sold off and Paras now concentrates on strategy, business process and information systems implementation consulting to the oil and gas industry.

In October 2008, Paras Ltd was acquired by RPS Energy.

The skills within Paras are integrated with the advisory practice in RPS and the combined group operates on a worldwide basis from regional offices in Canada, USA, Europe, SE Asia and Australia. Both Paras and RPS have a reputation for providing flexible independent consultancy with an emphasis on developing long term relationships with clients.  This ethos will continue within the combined organisation.

The Paras management team and staff will remain with the businesses and play a key role in developing the future capabilities of the combined business, to provide clients with a truly independent perspective, focusing on solutions that best fit business requirements without bias toward specific technologies.

E&P Strategy

Paras has worked with major international oil companies to define and implement exploration investment strategies. These include Shell, BP, ConocoPhillips, OMV, Premier Oil, Kufpec, Total, BG Group, Origin Energy, Noble Energy, Santos and Woodside. Projects include helping them restructure their work environment to enable them to compete more effectively. The work is undertaken using workshops, interviews, market research and competitor analysis. We have also undertaken benchmarking projects both in the North West Europe and internationally on the reasons for success and failure in exploration. IS Strategy

Effective information management is critical to the success of all enterprises and especially so in the oil industry. Paras has been working with many companies to help them manage their information more effectively, including BP, OMV, Tullow Oil, Petro-Canada and Anadarko. This includes consideration of both the technological and organisational aspects. The Paras approach takes as its starting point an acknowledgement that data and information management is not an isolated set of activities within a company, but must be designed to support specific business strategies and processes. Only when the business processes are understood can the companys database and application requirements be analysed. It can be determined which data flows and data management issues are on the critical path for significantly improving the performance of the asset teams. This approach ensures that the implementation plan first addresses those issues which will bring most benefit to the company.
