Subsurface Process Improvement

A thorough understanding of the subsurface is still one of the fundamental building blocks of E&P value creation.   Resource constraints (both people and rigs), and the continual drive to increase reservoir productivity, place an emphasis on high quality subsurface evaluation.

The Issue

Increasing volumes of data, both 4D seismic and production data are being received by interpretation teams. These data types allow a better understanding of the reservoir through a combination of enhanced subsurface imaging and reservoir performance. Subsurface teams are struggling with receiving, analysing, and modelling data to support more informed field management decisions.

Revisions to processes, workflows and interpretation systems are needed to ensure best use is made of this increased investment in reservoir performance data. Data and information management plays an increasingly important role in this world. At the heart of the process change is the concept of tight integration between the static and dynamic models; i.e. the geological and geophysical structural and reservoir property model should be directly informed by, and support, the dynamic reservoir performance data. In technology terms this means tight integration between the simulator and geological modelling software packages.

The Paras Approach

Paras has many years expertise in helping the world’s leading oil companies improve subsurface performance. We assist in helping asset teams design innovative approaches to responding to the challenges outlined above. Our approach is based on tried and tested methods that include:

  • Workshops
  • Workflow analysis
  • Process modelling (Role activity diagramming)

Paras has developed a library of process and workflow templates that allow our consultants to quickly and effectively analyse processes and thus make an immediate impact on performance.

Technology

Paras is among the world leaders in understanding subsurface process and technology. We have undertaken multiclient evaluations and bespoke procurement projects of a range of subsurface technologies including:

  • Geological modelling systems
  • Geological interpretation software
  • Reservoir data integration
