Hamish graduated as a geologist from Edinburgh University in 1978, joining BP shortly after. Whilst at BP, Hamish worked as an exploration geologist in the North Sea and South East Asia, and as a development geologist in Alaska. His career in BP took a turn when he became project manager of corporate database development.
After 10 years at BP, Hamish left to study for an MBA at IMD. On graduating, Hamish formed Paras Ltd and was shortly after joined by Alan Smith.
Although through the early years of Paras Hamish’s skills and the services offered by Paras were synonymous, the recent growth has cause further specialisation.
Skills and Achievements include:
- Exploration Strategy and Process: assisted companies design exploration processes and strategy that focused on effective capital and risk management
- Capital Allocation and Subsurface Process; Paras Consulting is among the world leaders of subsurface process and technology and the integration of subsurface understanding into the capital planning process
- Much of Hamish’s consulting work is based around helping companies solve problems that involve multiple stakeholders and cross disciplines
- He is adept and assisting clients focus on key issues and asking the difficult obvious question
- Programme design and management are key outcomes which lead to successful solution implementation
- Hamish has set up and managed programmes involved in business planning, corporate information and knowledge management, SOX compliance in technical decision making
Outside work Hamish is happily married with three sons. He is passionate about rugby and sailing.
